Women on the Move: Elinor Lipman & Jean Hanff Korelitz

REGISTER

As an aspiring young writer, Elinor Lipman knew she could hardly make her mark by churning out stories for the newsletter of the Massachusetts Teachers Association or press releases for a public television station, where she worked her first jobs.

But once she turned to books, her career soared: Her first novel, Then She Found Me, was adapted into a film starring Helen Hunt, Bette Midler and Matthew Broderick. Not a decade after its publication, she won the New England Book Award for her body of work — and that was before she wrote nine more books!

Lipman has ranged from best-selling screwball romantic comedy to moving tales about trying to go home again and the 2012 election (chronicled in rhyming political tweets). Her 13th novel, Rachel to the Rescue, featuring a character sacked from the Trump White House, was first published in the UK because Lipman’s US publisher initially declined to do so. Her latest, Ms. Demeanor, delivered with her signature wit and social insight, probes love under house arrest.

She will be in conversation with Jean Hanff Korelitz, novelist, playwright, theater producer and essayist. Her latest works include The Plot and The Latecomer
